Preserve Gold Review and What the Company Does Not Publish

Preserve Gold is a legitimate precious metals dealer with an A+ BBB rating, accreditation since September 2022, and one of the emptiest complaint files in the category: two complaints in three years. It names three depositories on its own site and states a buyback commitment in its own words. What it does not publish anywhere is an account minimum or a fee schedule. Both arrive by phone, and that single fact should shape how you approach the company.

We have no affiliate relationship with Preserve Gold and earn nothing if you open an account there. What follows is drawn from the company’s own website and its public BBB record, checked on 16 September 2026.

Is Preserve Gold Legit

Yes. Preserve Gold trades from Woodland Hills, California, has been BBB accredited since 6 September 2022, and holds an A+ rating. Its BBB complaint file shows two complaints in the last three years and none closed in the last twelve months. One is marked Resolved, one Answered. By the standards of this industry that is close to spotless.

Two caveats belong next to that number. The first is that the BBB reports on a rolling three-year window, so complaints older than that drop off. The second is that Preserve Gold has only been accredited since late 2022, so a thin file partly reflects a shorter trading history and smaller transaction volume rather than a better process. A company handling a tenth of the orders will attract roughly a tenth of the disputes even if it behaves identically. You will also see the claim that Preserve Gold has zero BBB complaints repeated across review sites. That is not accurate. There are two.

What the One Published Complaint Says

The published complaint, filed in February 2024, is worth reading because of what it disputes rather than how it ended. The customer bought silver bullion for $100,816.14 in March 2023 and raised three issues: an $816.14 shipping charge levied despite advertised free shipping, a $10,200 price gap against a competitor despite a stated price-match promise, and delivery 36 days after the order against a claimed one-week shipping time. The complaint was withdrawn and closed as Resolved.

Every item in that list is a term the buyer believed he had and could not point to in writing afterwards. That is the practical lesson from a company whose terms are quoted verbally rather than published.

What Preserve Gold Publishes and What It Does Not

Published on preservegold.com: the three approved depositories, the IRS purity rules, the account types eligible for rollover, the full product catalogue across four metals, and a buyback commitment.

Not published: the account minimum, the setup fee, the annual administration fee, the storage fee, the name of the custodian, and the buyback spread. The company’s own FAQ page states that fees vary with your chosen investments and services, and that the team will provide a breakdown before you decide. That is a promise of disclosure, which is a different thing from disclosure. It is not unusual in this industry, but it is worth naming, because a handful of dealers do publish. Birch Gold Group lists $50 setup, $30 wire and $235 a year on its own site, and you can compare that line by line in our Birch Gold Group review.

The Minimum Investment Question

Third-party reviews report Preserve Gold’s IRA minimum as $10,000 with near-unanimity. At least one account of a call with a representative puts it at $25,000, with a $30,000 threshold for buyback eligibility. Preserve Gold’s own website states no figure at all.

So treat $10,000 as a widely repeated number rather than a confirmed one, and ask on the first call. If the answer comes back at $10,000 it places Preserve Gold alongside American Hartford Gold and below Goldco’s $25,000 floor and Augusta’s $50,000. If it comes back higher, the main reason to consider the company disappears for a small rollover. Our page on the smallest amount needed to open a gold IRA covers where the rest of the field starts, and the full field is laid out in our comparison of gold IRA companies by minimum and fees.

Fees, the Waiver and What Happens Afterwards

Preserve Gold’s current published promotion, shown on its own site, is free insured shipping, a $200 account credit and a free home safe, for new clients on a qualified purchase. Review sites additionally describe a storage fee waiver running for multiple years on qualifying accounts, and zero liquidation fees on buybacks.

Assume the waiver is real and ask the question none of those reviews answer: what does the fee revert to when it ends? A waived storage fee for five years is worth having, but a gold IRA is a twenty or thirty year account. The number that matters is what you pay in year six, and it is not published. Get it in writing, alongside the annual administration fee, before you fund anything. A waiver at the front that converts to an above-market annual charge at the back is a worse deal than a published flat fee you can plan around from day one.

Storage, Custodian and Metals

Preserve Gold names three depositories: Texas Precious Metals Depository in Shiner, Texas, Delaware Depository in Wilmington and Boulder City, and International Depository Services in Dallas and New Castle. The Texas option is genuinely uncommon and appeals to investors who want metal stored in their own state. We compare the facilities in our guide to approved gold IRA depositories.

The custodian is the gap. Preserve Gold refers to vetted, IRS-compliant custodians without naming one. Augusta names Equity Trust openly; several competitors do the same. The custodian is the entity that legally holds your IRA and files with the IRS, so knowing which one you are being signed up to matters more than most buyers realise. If you are unclear on why these are three separate companies, our explainer on custodian versus dealer versus depository sets out who does what.

On metals, Preserve Gold is broader than most. It maintains product pages for gold, silver, platinum and palladium in coins and bars, and confirms in its FAQ that an IRA may hold any of the four subject to IRS purity rules. Several larger dealers in this category are built around gold and silver only.

Who Preserve Gold Suits

Preserve Gold suits a smaller rollover where Augusta’s $50,000 floor and Goldco’s $25,000 are out of reach, where you want platinum or palladium alongside gold, or where in-state Texas storage appeals. We set it against American Hartford Gold in American Hartford Gold vs Preserve Gold, against the market’s best-known name in Augusta Precious Metals vs Preserve Gold, against Goldco in Goldco vs Preserve Gold, and against Noble Gold in Noble Gold vs Preserve Gold. The clean complaint record and the A+ are real, if you read them with the age caveat attached. Our piece on what a BBB A+ actually measures explains why the grade alone settles less than it appears to.

It suits you less well if you want every cost written down before you speak to anyone. That is a legitimate preference, and there are dealers who publish. The gap here is disclosure, not integrity, and it closes the moment you get a written fee schedule and a named custodian. Ask for both on the first call, and work through our questions to ask a gold IRA company before you sign while you have someone on the phone.

Common Questions About Preserve Gold

What is Preserve Gold’s minimum investment?

Not published by the company. Third-party reviews commonly report $10,000 for an IRA, and at least one account of a direct call cites $25,000. Confirm it yourself before you plan around it. Our table of gold IRA minimums by company shows where every published figure in the field sits.

Does Preserve Gold have any BBB complaints?

Two in the last three years, one Resolved and one Answered, with none closed in the last twelve months. The claim that it has zero is repeated widely and is wrong.

Who is Preserve Gold’s custodian?

The company does not name one publicly. It refers to working with IRS-compliant custodians. Ask for the name and confirm it appears on your account paperwork.

Where does Preserve Gold store IRA metals?

Texas Precious Metals Depository, Delaware Depository or International Depository Services, all named on its own site. Home storage is not permitted for IRA metal.

Does Preserve Gold sell platinum and palladium for IRAs?

Yes. It maintains dedicated product pages for both, and its FAQ confirms an IRA can hold platinum and palladium that meet IRS purity standards.

What is Preserve Gold’s buyback process?

The company states it will repurchase metals at the highest price available on the market without fees. No spread is published, so ask what you would be offered today on the specific products you are being sold.
