Birch Gold Group vs Noble Gold Investments and Which Fits Your Rollover

This page contains affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you open an account through one of them, at no extra cost to you. It does not change the figures below or who we say each company suits.

Birch Gold Group suits a rollover investor who wants the lower of the two minimums, a choice of depositories, and access to all four IRS-eligible metals. Noble Gold Investments suits an investor who wants a simpler depository setup and the option to take non-IRA metal delivery at home, and who clears a $20,000 starting point comfortably.

Both companies charge a flat annual fee that does not rise with account size, so the real differences are the entry point, the metals list, and how much choice you get over where your metal sits. Figures checked 28 September 2026.

Minimum Investment and Fees Compared

Birch Gold Group's own precious metals IRA page states the threshold plainly: your initial purchase must meet the $5,000 minimum. Noble Gold's own Gold IRA page is just as direct in the other direction, its FAQ states "Our Gold IRA minimum investment is $20,000." Birch's floor is a quarter of Noble Gold's, which settles the question outright for a rollover under $20,000.

Both companies publish a complete fee schedule and both land on a flat annual number that does not change as the account grows. Birch charges $50 to set up, $30 to wire funds, $110 a year for storage and insurance and $125 a year for management, for a flat $235 a year. Noble Gold charges the same $50 setup and $30 wire, then $125 a year in account maintenance and $160 a year in storage, for a flat $285 a year, $50 more than Birch. Noble also carries two fees Birch does not: a $75 in-kind distribution fee and a $250 account closure fee.

Birch covers the first year's fees on transfers above $50,000, a waiver Noble Gold does not offer. Over ten years, Birch's total runs close to $2,400 against Noble Gold's roughly $2,900, a gap of about $500 that holds regardless of account size since neither fee is tiered. Our comparison of gold IRA minimums by company lines both figures up against the rest of the field.

IRA-Eligible Metals: Four Options Against Two

Birch Gold Group's IRA page names all four IRS-eligible metals: gold, silver, platinum and palladium. Noble Gold's own site markets a Gold and Silver IRA specifically, and nothing in its published product pages points to platinum or palladium as stocked IRA products. An investor who wants exposure to all four metals inside one account has only one of these two companies to choose from.

The gap matters less than it sounds for most rollovers, since gold and silver make up the bulk of what investors in this category actually buy. It matters more for someone deliberately diversifying across the full IRS-approved list, where Birch is the only option of the two.

Depository Choice and Buyback Process

Birch names five storage facilities on its own site: Delaware Depository, Brink's, International Depository Services, Texas Precious Metals Depository and the Texas Bullion Depository. That is a genuine choice of location and operator, not a marketing list, and it is the widest published depository selection among the companies we cover.

Noble Gold markets a single Texas facility, run with International Depository Services in Dallas, as its point of difference, and its own materials also describe Delaware Depository as an alternative it has offered. That is two named options rather than the one a "single depository" description would suggest, though Noble promotes the Texas facility far more heavily than the alternative.

Neither company publishes a buyback spread. Birch's site says a Precious Metals Specialist can provide a current buyback quote at any time, with no liquidation fee and no named program. Noble Gold's support materials describe a comparable process, contacting a Noble Gold IRA specialist, who arranges either a cash payout or physical delivery for non-IRA holdings. Reading our look at what free gold IRA kits really cost is a reasonable step before either company's specialist calls with a quote.

Which Company Fits Your Rollover

Under $20,000, Birch is the only one of the two that will open the account, since Noble Gold's minimum sits at $20,000 outright. Below roughly $10,000 to $15,000, it is worth asking whether a flat $235 leaves enough room for the position to be worth holding at all, a question that applies to Birch's minimum specifically rather than to this comparison. Our Birch Gold Group review and Noble Gold Investments review cover each company individually in more depth.

Above $20,000, the decision comes down to what you value more: Birch's lower flat fee, five-depository choice and four-metal selection, or Noble Gold's home-delivery option on non-IRA purchases and its simpler two-facility setup. Birch's BBB complaint file, checked 7 September 2026, shows 10 complaints over three years with 3 closed in the past twelve months, a track record we could not find a directly comparable published count for at Noble Gold.

Common Questions

Is Birch Gold Group better than Noble Gold Investments for a small rollover?

For anything under $20,000, Birch is the only one of the two that will open the account, since its $5,000 minimum is a quarter of Noble Gold's $20,000 floor.

Which company has lower annual fees, Birch Gold or Noble Gold?

Birch, at a flat $235 a year against Noble Gold's flat $285. Both figures are published in full on each company's own site and neither changes with account size.
