Genesis Gold Group looks inexpensive on paper and opaque in practice. Third-party reviews report a flat $250 annual IRA fee plus about $95 for storage, and the company holds an A+ BBB rating with no complaints listed. What it does not publish is pricing or buyback terms, so your real cost depends on the spread on the coins you buy and what Genesis pays when you sell. Get three things in writing before you fund: the premium on every product, the buyback formula, and the custodian's fee schedule. Figures below were checked on 19 October 2026.
Genesis Gold Group at a Glance
The table sets Genesis beside two companies whose fees we have verified. Genesis figures come from ConsumerAffairs (page updated 3 October 2026), not from Genesis itself. The Genesis pages we could read state no fees or minimums.
Fees and What the Flat Annual Fee Covers
A flat $250 fee plus about $95 for storage comes to roughly $345 a year, which is 0.69% of a $50,000 account and 0.35% of $100,000. Over ten years that is about $3,450 before setup and wire charges. Noble Gold's published $285 would total $2,850 over the same period, and Augusta's $225 about $2,250. The gap is modest, but it is not the largest cost. That sits in the price you pay for the metal.
Genesis does not list prices on its website, according to ConsumerAffairs. Dealers earn their margin through the premium over spot price, and without a published figure the only way to see it is to ask. Our guide to comparing gold IRA quotes side by side shows how to line up premium, fees and buyback in one table.
Minimums and Who Genesis Suits
ConsumerAffairs says an IRA suits roughly $30,000 to $40,000 and up, with a $10,000 minimum for cash purchases. We could not confirm either figure on Genesis's own pages, so ask for the minimum in writing. If the real figure is near $30,000, Genesis sits between Noble Gold at $20,000 and Augusta at $50,000, which makes it a candidate for a mid-sized rollover. Smaller accounts may find the flat fee heavy. See our minimum investment comparison and the best companies comparison for the alternatives.
Storage and Custodian
Genesis's homepage says metals are held at the Delaware Depository, which it describes as carrying $1 billion in all-risk insurance. It can be segregated or non-segregated. The same page refers only to unnamed trusted custodian partners. Ask Genesis which custodian will hold your account and request that custodian's own fee schedule. The $250 figure is ConsumerAffairs's, and the custodian's schedule is what you will actually be billed from.
What Reviewers and the BBB Show
Genesis holds an A+ rating and has been BBB accredited since 20 September 2022. The BBB profile lists 0 complaints, and 43 customer reviews average 4.63 out of 5. BBB dates the business to August 2022, so the record is short. ConsumerAffairs shows 4.7 out of 5 across 60 reviews, 93% of them five-star, and praise centres on staff and the rollover process. We did not search the CFPB complaint database for this article, so check it yourself.
The critical reviews are specific, and they are one person's account, not findings:
- A BBB reviewer in May 2026 said an account opened a year earlier was overcharged for metals and lost roughly 40% of its value once the metal reached the depository.
- A February 2026 review on both BBB and ConsumerAffairs said a 2023 401(k) rollover showed a value more than 50% below the transfer amount, and that premiums above spot were never clearly explained.
- A September 2026 ConsumerAffairs reviewer said calls went unanswered for about a week and a partial withdrawal requested three weeks earlier had not been paid.
Genesis has not been shown to be at fault in any of them. They do point at the same two weak spots as most dealers: how premiums are explained, and how fast a sale is handled. A statement value that falls after purchase is usually the premium showing up, which our guide to numismatic coins in a gold IRA explains. Ask whether the order is standard bullion and whether any rare or proof coins are included.
Buyback and Exit Questions to Get in Writing
ConsumerAffairs lists the absence of buyback information on Genesis's website as a drawback, and its homepage says only that Genesis will help with liquidations and RMDs. Before you fund, ask for these in writing:
- The premium over spot on each product in your order, in dollars and as a percentage.
- The buyback formula, including whether Genesis quotes a price at any time, and what it deducts.
- The custodian's full schedule, including closing, transfer and wire fees. Our exit-cost comparison shows what to expect.
Our guide to how buyback programs work explains why the spread on a sale is usually the largest exit cost, and the checklist of questions to ask before you sign covers the rest.
